Wilma Jean (Gibson) Wise, 81, died at 4:30 Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017 in her home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born August 15, 1935 in Weleetka, Oklahoma to Cecil and Birdie (Crawford) Gibson. She married James Edgar Watkins and they had one son, Michael Watkins. They lived in many places due to James service in the United States Air Force. Okinawa, Japan was one of her favorite places they were stationed and she told many happy stories from her time there. After returning to the states, Wilma returned to school and graduated from Weleetka High School. She then attended a vocational school in Arkansas where she received a certificate in nursing and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was greatly rewarded working in nursing and had experience in everything from Pediatrics to Geriatrics.
Later, Wilma married the love of her life, the late Henry Lee Wise. The two were only married thirteen short months before he passed away.
She played the piano at the Allen Free Will Baptist Church in her younger years, even though she was missing a finger on her left hand. She loved the many years she was able to enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Eufaula and her most-prized possession of her piece of land at the top of a hill near the lake, which she shared with her companion, Willie Snarr. It reminded her very much of her childhood and will be her final place of rest. She enjoyed sitting outdoors, watching wildlife, and the beauty of flowers. She loved cooking, working puzzles, and looking through her mountain of catalogs that came each month. She enjoyed singing at her church and visiting with her close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Birdie (Crawford) Gibson and beloved husband, Henry Lee Wise.
She is survived by her son, Michael Watkins and wife, Scharain of Broken Arrow, OK; siblings, Clifford Gibson of Midwest City, OK, Peggy Malone of Seminole, OK, Judy McCain and husband, James of Oklahoma City, OK, Gail Matthews of Norman, OK; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; many friends; and her loyal companion and snack-sharer, Lucy. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on Monday, April 17, 2017 at 3pm at Schaudt’s Tulsa Funeral Service.
