Wilma Jean Brown passed away peacefully early on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Jean was born on September 23, 1931, in Olustee, OK to her parents, Jester ‘JC’ and Verna (Butler) Conger.
She graduated from Olustee High School and attended Southwestern State College. Jean met the love of her life, William Carl ‘Bill’ Brown. They were married on June 3, 1952, in Olustee, OK. After the wedding, Bill and Jean shipped out to Honolulu where their daughter Marilyn was born. Jean and Marilyn returned to OK while her husband was in Korea. Upon being discharged from the U.S. Navy, Bill and family relocated to Olustee, OK and their two sons, Ricky & Randy were born, thus completing their family.
She obtained her cosmetology license under the supervision of her mother, Verna, who was an instructor. The family moved to Sapulpa in 1972 where they managed (then) Cherry Hill Apartments.
Jean worked for the doctors at Founder's Clinic in Sapulpa for many years, then for the Eye-to-Eye optometrist office until her retirement. Jean had a huge heart and desire to care for others- she took care of both her parents, as their health declined. Jean always felt happiest when she was caring for others. She had a unique sense of humor that remained even as she suffered severe progressive dementia in the last three years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.C. & Verna Conger; husband, William Brown; her brother Miller Conger, and daughter-in-law, Karen Brown.
Jean is survived by her brother Don Conger and wife Etta Faye, sister-in-law Marj Conger, son Randy Brown, grandchildren Valerie Morgan and husband Andrew, and Michael Brown; son, Ricky L Brown; step-grandchildren Jurnee & Emma Odhikari; daughter, Marilyn Brown, grandson Justin Pence and wife Jennifer and their children, grandson Jared Pence and wife Cara and their children, grandson Joel Pence and wife Kathleen and their children.
