William Robert “Bill” Myers passed away Saturday evening, March 14, 2015, at St. Simeon’s Episcopal Home in Tulsa. He was born December 12, 1922, in Wichita, Kansas, to Charles and Thelma (Cook) Myers. Bill graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1940. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Bill was innovative and mechanically minded. As a young man, he worked as a pattern maker in a machine shop. During the 1950s, he designed and built simulators for numerous Department of Defense aircraft. Bill later worked as an insurance agent, retiring from Allstate after more than 30 years.
Bill and his wife were longtime members of Christ the King Catholic Church, and they were perpetual members in the Eucharistic Adoration Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill was passionate about volunteering with Meals on Wheels and delivered meals into his late 80s. He also loved to play golf whenever he could find a game. Bill will be missed by the many friends and family who cared for him dearly.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth Ellen (Swinney) Myers; his children: Cece DuBois, of Murphreesboro, Tennessee; Bob Myers and his wife Lyn, of Memphis, Tennessee; Josh Mars, of Tulsa; Theresa Myers, of Alexandria, Virginia; Mary Myers, of Sacramento, California; and Karen Myers, of Tulsa; his sister, Betty Jo Goller, of Waelder, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Christopher W. Teel of Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service at Memorial Park in Tulsa. A Rosary is scheduled for 7:00 PM Thursday at Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, with interment following at Calvary Cemetery.
