William Harry Goodman

He was born May 7, 1924 to William Archie and Edna Winnefred Andrews Goodman in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He died on May 18, 2008 surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Tulsa Oklahoma.
He was preceeded in death last December by his wife of 62 years, Rose Marie Garner, his brother Bristol Goodman, and his sister Tonnie Greer.
He is survived by his brother Clint and sister-in-law Fran of Estes Park Colorado; His daughters: Darla Kindrick of Stillwater, Jimi Goodman and fiancé Tim Freeburg of Okla City, and Gaye Call and husband Bill of Broken Arrow.
His grandchildren are Tonda Davis and husband Jeff, Shane Schwab and wife Courtney, Steffani Tucker and husband Robert, Alesha Erbter and husband Ed, Jason Head and Jennifer Mantegani.
Great grand children are Alex Akers and Levi Davis; Colin and Cassidy Schwab; Zachary, Andrew, and Joshua Tucker; Emory, Athen, Aidan, and Anna Erbter; Kaleb, Logan and Lindsay Mantegani.
Bill's grandparents made the Land Run of Oklahoma in 1889 and staked their claim in Stillwater. His grandfather helped build the very first building at Oklahoma State University then known as Oklahoma A M College.
He graduated from Stillwater High School and then served 3 years in the Navy during WWII. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed in the Pacific Theatre, assigned to the Seabees, building airstrips. He received the WWII Victory Medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal- 3 stars, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon €“ 2 stars. He remained in the Naval Reserves for 19 more years where he reached the rank of Chief Yeoman and served 2 weeks active duty every year for those 19 years.
After the war, he met Rose Marie at a USO dance and they married September 1, 1945. He decided to go back to school and attended OSU. During that time, they had 3 daughters in 3 years. He also helped to establish the Naval Reserve Unit in Stillwater during that time. He graduated from OSU in 1954 with a Business degree. Oklahoma A M College was renamed Oklahoma State University in 1957 so he was very proud to receive TWO diplomas: one from Oklahoma A M and later another one from OSU.

He then got a job with Republic Supply Co of OKC as their Personnel Manager for 15 years and served as their main Safety Officer. He then went to banking school and was employed by Morris State Bank for 15 years as Vice President and served on their Board of Directors.
His retirement years were spent enjoying his grandchildren and later his great grandchildren. He loved raising flower gardens and vegetable gardens (especially tomatoes), and of course enjoyed OSU sports. He and Rosie attended OSU football, basketball, baseball and wrestling games for most of their 62 years of marriage.
He was active and served on many committees in their churches over the years. He Rosie were members of First United Methodist of Jenks. He loved shopping garage sales and finding great bargains for all of his family.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor and friend. He never knew a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20th at Schaudt's Funeral Service, Glenpool, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Jenks United Methodist Church, 415 S. Main, Jenks, OK. Reverend David Karges will officiate. Interment will follow at Fair Lawn Cemetery Stillwater, OK.
Memorial contributions can be made to FUMC Jenks, Life Support Ministry of Arrow Heights Baptist Church, or to St. Francis Hospice Group.
