Walter €œWalt€ Leo McElyea age 74 passed away at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, November 26, 2008.
Walt was born January 22, 1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Henry and Chillilottie (Ellis) McElyea. Walt enlisted in the United States Navy on November 14, 1952 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was honorably discharged October 12, 1956 in San Francisco, California. Walt married Evelyn L. Nelson on December 2, 1961 in Pasadena, California. He worked as a self-employed roofing contractor. Walt enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool and gardening. He was known for his large vegetable and potato gardens.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Chillilottie McElyea along with his wife, Evelyn who passed away November 20, 1994 and his daughter: Brenda L. McElyea (July 18, 2001).
Mr. McElyea is survived by his daughter: Shirl Pilcher and her husband, Terry of Kellyville; his sons: Wade McElyea and his wife, Michelle of Tulsa; Andy McElyea and his wife, Songim of Tulsa; his sisters: Thelma Uekman and her husband, Herman of Conway, Arkansas; Rose Conner and her husband, Floyd of Tulsa; Sue Webster of Glenpool; his brother: Bob McElyea and his wife, Glenda of Stigler, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Lauren Pilcher, Ryan McElyea, Logan McElyea (due December 27, 2008); step-grandchildren: Nicole Jackson and her husband James, Jeremy Pilcher and wife, Kasey, Stephanie Pilcher, Johnny Cupples and one great grandchild: Sara Pilcher along many nieces, nephews, friends and acquintances.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Hill Haven Church of God, 4800 S. Yukon, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Reverend Rick McElyea will officiate.
