Wallace Danforth Joslyn

Dr. Wallace Danforth Joslyn, 83, of Tulsa, Oklahoma died Saturday, December 24th 2022. The body will be cremated and interred in Charleston, Missouri at a later date.


Dan was born on April 13, 1939 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Lewis Danforth Joslyn and Margaret Bernice Gallup Joslyn. Dan enjoyed running, track and field, travel, photography, history, carpentry, investing and staying abreast of sports, political and scientific progress. He is the author of My Life and Family: A Personal and Family History and The Murder of Johnny Malugen: A True Story of Race, Violence and Hope in a Southern Town. He also authored or coauthored many articles in scientific journals.


Dan grew up in Charleston, Missouri and graduated from Charleston High School in 1957. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1961 and studied under Dr. Harry Harlow at the University of Wisconsin to earn a PhD in psychology in 1967. He worked researching the psychological basis of behavior at the Oregon Regional Primate Research Center. Next, he transitioned to clinical psychology at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. He then worked as a clinical psychologist at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Knoxville, Iowa from 1972 until his retirement in 1997. He was a lifetime member to the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy.


Dan is survived by his wife, Moreen Joslyn, of Tulsa OK; two children, Jonathan Joslyn, of Bozeman, MT and his wife Lisa and Sarah (Joslyn) Ellis and her husband Steven of Tulsa, OK; five grandchildren Grant Joslyn, Taylor Joslyn, Carsten Ellis, Christopher Ellis, and Colin Ellis; siblings Lewis Campbell and Lese Joslyn-Edgar.
