Tulsa resident Virginia Ray Stiles passed away at home with her family by her side early Tuesday morning February 10, 2015 at 69 years of age.
She was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 16, 1945 to parents Troy Ray and Dorothy Virginia (Laughlin) Cawvey. She spent her childhood years with her mother and siblings in their Sapulpa home. She graduated from Sapulpa High School with the class of 1963. While working various jobs she continued her education at TJC, graduating in 1978 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. She went on to get her Bachelor of Nursing from Langston University in 1986. She spent approximately 30 years in the nursing field at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital (also known as Tulsa Regional Medical Center and OSU Medical Center).
Virginia first met Don at an old time filling station in Tulsa. When their paths crossed again at Cain’s Ballroom in 1962, history was made. They married October 22, 1965 at the home of Uncle Don and Aunt Pauline Wheeler and celebrated 49 years of marriage this last fall.
After only 2 years of marriage God miraculously filled their lives and home with twin girls, Keli Jo and Kari Lyn on May 5, 1968. She passed on a love of education to her girls, and in 1986 not only did she finally achieve her BSN, her daughters graduated from high school, and Don completed the literacy program with the Tulsa County Library. Virginia was extremely proud of her family’s accomplishments. She took great pride in raising her daughters and stressed the importance of honesty and of being a genuinely caring person. She was very family oriented, and loved to cook, crochet, travel, and research family genealogy. In addition to the influence she had with her girls, she also had a huge influence in the lives of her two grandchildren. She emphasized to all her family the importance of a personal relationship with God. Virginia and Don have been members of Red Fork Assembly of God Church for the last 17 years where she volunteered happily as the church secretary and treasurer.
She is preceded in death by her father, Troy Cawvey.
Virginia leaves many precious memories with her family, her loving husband, Don Stiles; daughters, Keli Stiles-Ethridge and Kari Stiles-Janke; granddaughter, Whitney Underwood and husband Patrick, grandson Jeremy Stiles; brother, Jim Cawvey, Mark Cawvey and wife Deborah, sister, Jayne Easley and husband Darryl; nieces, Mendi Estes and husband Gary, Brandy Valentine and husband Joe, Jennifer Tuttle and husband Chris, and Jenny Lloyd; 2 great nephews and 5 great nieces; as well as many other loving relatives and a host of friends and former coworkers.
A Celebration of Life Service honoring Virginia will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday February 17, 2015 at the Red Fork Assembly of God Church, 4241 South 37th West Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74107, with Pastor Tony Penn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stiles Family Memorial Fund in care of Oklahoma Central Credit Union.
