Virginia Niblo Baldwin

Funeral services and committal for Virginia Niblo Browder Baldwin, a resident of Falls Church, Virginia for over fifty years, were held at St. John's Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma on October 23, 2004, with The Reverend David Fox officiating. Virginia was born in El Paso, Texas on May 3, 1922 to Urban and Katharine Earle Niblo. She attended the University of Texas. Virginia spent much of her life moving from place to place first as a daughter of Brigadier General Urban Niblo and then the wife of Lieutenant Colonel Jewell Richard Browder now residing in San Diego, California. They have three daughters, Patti, Dana and Linda. Finally settling in Falls Church, Virginia, in 1952, Virginia founded Seaton Lane School where for 70 children and with 8 employees, she offered Nursery School, Kindergarten, First and Second Grades. Virginia and her family were long time members of The Falls Church Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday school and Directed Christian Education. In 1961 Mrs. Baldwin sold her school and began teaching for the Fairfax County, Virginia, public school system. She taught First Grade, Special Education, and also taught Adult English as a Second Language and Adult Basic Education night classes. Virginia retired from teaching in June 1984. Virginia Baldwin belonged to many associations and organizations during her career including; National, Virginia and Fairfax Educational Associations, Pi Lambda Theta, the Falls Church Professional and Business Women's Club, Arlington Players, an amateur drama group and Alpha Phi Alumni of Northern Virginia. After Retirement she had more time for her favorite group €“ her local Alpha Phi Sorority sisters. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed the local Senior Center, and loved her garden, bird watching and taking day trips. In April of 2004 Virginia moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she died October 20, 2004. Mrs. Baldwin is survived by: daughters; Linda Keeney and husband Scott of Troy, Virginia, Dana Kerns and husband Roy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Patricia Wrenn and husband Barry of Fullerton, California ; grandchildren, Jennifer Wrenn of Washington, D.C., Geoffrey Wrenn of Fullerton, California, Shannon Kerns Notz and husband Harold of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sandra Kerns of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Great-grandchildren, Ashten and Mackenzie Notz of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Niece; Katharine Scovill and family of Mt. Shasta, California She is preceded in death by her parents and sister Elizabeth Bowie and nephew Sam Bowie. Any remembrances may be sent in memory of Virginia Baldwin to her favorite charity, The Little Lighthouse, a Christian School for handicapped children up to age twelve.
