Virginia Swanson of Webb City passed on to her eternal rest on April 2, 2016. Virginia was born on January 30, 1933 in Eugene, OR to Audie and Blanche Mahan. Virginia grew up in the Mt. Vernon, Missouri area and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1950. She attended college at SMSU in Springfield, Missouri where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau along with her new best friend, Marilyn Swanson. Marilyn introduced her brother, Marvin, to Virginia and the two quickly became lifelong sweethearts. Virginia and Marvin were married July 21, 1952 and were happily married until Marvin’s passing in April 2011. Virginia and Marvin spent most of their married lives in the Webb City/Joplin area. Together they raised three children, Lucinda, Clark, and Brett.
Virginia was active member of the Webb City Chapter of PEO for 50 years; she was also a long time member of the Webb City Central Methodist Church. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband Marvin, her mother, father, stepfather, two sisters and one brother. Virginia is survived by her daughter Lucinda Swanson of Tulsa, her son Clark (Sandy) of Columbus, Ohio, her son Brett (Barbara) Swanson of Lenexa, Kansas; two grandchildren, Grace and Taylor Swanson; and niece, Carolyn George of St. Louis.
A memorial service will be held on 6:30 PM, Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Webb City Central Methodist Church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the American Heart Association or Meals on Wheels.
