Virginia “Jinny” Mudd passed away peacefully at Montereau Retirement Center on October 25, 2017. She recently celebrated a joyful 96th birthday with family and friends.
Jinny was born in Tulsa on October 16. 1921. Except for a five year stay in Ohio with her family, she was a lifelong Tulsa resident. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School, attended Oklahoma A&M (now OSU Stillwater), then graduated from Oklahoma School of Business. She worked at Douglas Aircraft and Oklahoma Natural Gas Co. before meeting John Mudd, the precious love of her life. They were married October 30, 1943, and shared a blessed life and marriage together for nearly 60 years. Jinny worked at Guarantee National Bank in the 60’s, opening new accounts, then later as a receptionist at Word Industries. She was a member of Boston Avenue Methodist Church, Tulsa Mrs., the Petroleum Club, NEATS, and Silver Service.
Above all, Jinny was a loving and exuberant wife, mother, and homemaker. She poured energy, style and great care into everything she loved. She kept a beautiful home and entertained with flair, setting festive tables and cooking marvelous meals. She and John found joy in every moment, whether travelling at home or abroad, or going out for dinner and dancing. She was a zealous winner of radio contests and became known as The Radio Lady. She loved soul jazz and attending the Jazz Hall of Fame. Jinny will always be remembered by her sweet charm and engaging laughter.
Jinny was predeceased by her beloved husband John, parents James B. and Isabel White, brother James, and grandson David John Berney.
She is survived by her son Chris of Ponca City, OK, daughter Linda Berney (Arnold) of Joplin, MO, granddaughters Angella Mudd, Major USAF, NC of Houston, Kim Mudd of Broken Arrow, OK, and Valerie Cripps of Los Angeles, CA, ten great grandchildren and five great great-granchildren.
Our family is grateful for the loving care of the Montereau staff and Saint Francis Hospice. A 2:00 memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11 in the Chapel at Montereau, 6800 South Granite. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Little Light House, 5120 East 36th Street, Tulsa OK 74135, or Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 South Boston, Tulsa, OK 74119.
