Valerie TeQuilla Oates Ayers was born on February 9, 1958, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was the older of 2 children born to Orvie and Lois Faye Oates. Buster and Geraldine Cooks were her maternal grandparents. Preceding her in death were her father and grandparents. Valerie was baptized at Christ Temple C.M.E. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Valerie was educated at NEO in Miami, OK, and Oklahoma State University. She is a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Valerie worked at American Airlines for 20 years as a Material Logistic Specialist. Valerie enjoyed shopping. There was not a department store or online shopping site that she was not familiar with.

On August 8, 2020, the Lord quietly and peacefully called Valerie home. She leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Lois Faye Kelley of Tulsa, OK; one brother, Dominic (Melissa) Oates of Atlanta, GA; four stepsisters and one stepbrother; her Uncle Willie and Aunt Lucille Oates; and a niece, three nephews, and a host of cousins, and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the workers at Grace Hospice of Tulsa, OK especially Felecia, Kelsey, Whitley, Tracey, and George. We would also like to thank Rev. Dean McDaniel, Senior Pastor at First Christian Church of Jenks, OK. A special thank you to her cousin Marie Walker and close family friends, Dr. Stacey and Mrs. Cole.
