Tom Barnett Sunny, 80, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born August 22, 1932 to Walter and Ellen (Barnett) Sunny in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He attended Rocky Hill grade school then he graduated from Nuyaka High School in 1952, at which he seldom missed a high school reunion. His senior year, he was All-District in Basketball and received a scholarship to Oklahoma A&M in Okmulgee. He was then drafted and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He served on the 5th RCT in the Army and served as a board member with the association. Tom was a lifelong member of the Honey Creek United Indian Methodist Church and was a lay leader in the church. He played independent basketball and enjoyed bowling. Tom was an active coach to his sons and granddaughters. He was very proud of his granddaughters and loved spending time with them and his family and will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ellen Sunny, two brothers, six sisters and a baby daughter. Survivors include his loving wife, Margie Sunny of the home; two sons, Walter Sunny and wife, Lesa of Catoosa and Tommy Sunny and wife, Jennifer of Broken Arrow; two sisters, Mary Sunny and Betty Woodfield both of Okmulgee; three granddaughters, Morgan Searl, Kathryn and Rebecca Sunny and numerous nieces and nephews. Wake services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Honey Creek United Indian Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Baker and Reverend Joe Lowe officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home and Crematory in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Randy Thomas, Bobby Hardridge, Ben Hardridge, Hayden Dunn, Thomas Dunn and Zach Searl. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Woodfield , Brenden Woodfield and Calvin Baldridge. Military Honors will be conducted by the Creek Nation Honor Guard.
