On Saturday, August 26th we lost our most precious and youngest member of the Crandall Family, Susan Katherine Crandall, aka Sue, Suzy, Susie (she didn't care what you called her). She completed her worldly tasks and slipped away to join those already gone ahead. Including her parents, Frieda and Lawrence Crandall, her sister Linda Harless and her brother Larry Crandall. She is survived by her husband, Ed Aldrich; sister, Jane Longan and brother, John Crandall and spouses; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sue was born December 10, 1958 and was the baby of the family. She grew up in Tulsa schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington. She majored in art at Oklahoma State University and was the last of us to leave our parents' home. She married Ed Aldrich on March 15, 2002. She worked in retail for a number of years and eventually retired to her real occupation-art.

Sue didn't limit herself to one medium. She dallied in them all: painting, sculpture, jewelry making, mosaics and quilting. She didn't approach her projects in a linear fashion. She chose unusual subjects and designed her own original patterns. When inspiration struck, she welcomed it instantly. She might spend the whole day cutting out a new quilt. Sue must have had 20 to 30 projects in progress. She and her sister belonged to the Okmulgee Scrap Happy Quilt Guild and enjoyed spending time at meetings and retreats with their quilting buddies.

There were many years that Sue spent as the family caregiver. Eventually she and Ed moved in with her mom and her brother, Larry. Sue took care of both and over the years those responsibilities grew heavier and heavier. In the end, Sue looked after her mom at home until she passed away, to avoid the possibility that she might be alone in a hospital during Covid times. Sue's real life's work was caring for her family.

Sue could be quiet and retrospective. She was once shy, but overcame it. She was often boisterous at gatherings of family or friends. She could be wickedly funny. She loved dressing up in costumes, celebrating birthdays and participating in games.

Sue and Ed loved watching movies together and they had favorites that were often repeated. They talked for hours on the phone while he drove a truck for weeks at a time. She often sent him on his way with his favorite cookies.

Sue was an awesome wife, friend, sister, daughter and artist. We find it so hard to believe that we won't see her again soon. Please post remembrances if you wish. There will not be a traditional service. Please communicate Sue's passing to your friends and relatives who are not online. Sue wasn't online either. She just didn't see the need for it.
