Sula Mae Tolbert

September 26, 1923 — March 25, 2012

Sula Mae, known as Sue, passed away peacefully at her home in Glenpool, OK on Sunday, March 25, 2012. Sue was born at home to Earnest and Mittie (Core) Nunnellee on September 26, 1923 near Caulksville, Arkansas. Growing up during the depression, she and her seven brothers and sisters worked on the family farm. She attended high school at Ratcliff, Arkansas where she met the love of her life, Ford Tolbert. Like other strong women during World War II, she did her part by working in a parachute factory, while Ford was stationed as a pilot in the Pacific. Shortly after Ford returned from the war, they settled in Tulsa, OK where they started a family. For many happy years they raised their daughters, Vickie and Nancy, enjoyed fishing and boating on Oklahoma lakes and traveling about the country on their motorcycle. In later years, she and Ford started a new adventure as they built a new home on daughter Nancy's ranch near Glenpool, OK. She enjoyed gardening and the prairie life with all the flowers and birds until Alzheimer's disease took those from her. Sue is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ford, her daughters, Vickie and Nancy, her sons-in-law, Ben Dellavedova and Stuart Wilson, her grandsons, Ben Jr. and Paschal Dellavedova and her great grandchildren, Lorelei and Ben III. Sue is remembered as an excellent cook and seamstress and home maker. She was devoted and loving to family and friends. Memorial donations can be made in Sue's name to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Schaudt's Funeral Service Chapel, 719 East 141st Street, Glenpool, OK 74033.
