Steven Lance Cox

January 14, 1945 — February 8, 2022

Steven Lance Cox passed away on February 8, 2022 at the age of 77.
Steve was born on January 14, 1945 to Heber Cox, Jr. and Alene Cox. He married his high school sweetheart, Diane Cox, in 1965. Together they raised two children; son, Sean Cox and daughter, Shelly (Cox) Hopper.

Steve was born and raised in Tulsa, OK, where he grew up playing football and baseball. Following his graduation from Central High School, he attended the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, he and Diane married. Steve then completed officer training and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He proudly served in the Vietnam War as a Lieutenant and received many honors, including the Bronze Star.

After Steve returned home, he began his career as a custom home builder. He loved the outdoors and went on countless camping and road trips, most frequently to Colorado. Steve was also an avid cyclist and was passionate about fitness, rarely missing a day at the gym. He remained in close contact with his Marine Corps brothers and platoon members, who referred to him as "LT." Over the years, Steve traveled across the country to countless reunions with his brothers in arms.

Steve never met a stranger, and his home was a place where all were welcome. He was known for his dry sense of humor and his tremendous heart. He appreciated good food, good music and good company. He loved spending time with friends and family, but he especially adored his grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by both of his parents. He will be eternally missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Diane Cox,; son Sean and daughter, Shelly Hopper; four grandchildren that he treasured, Lauren and Kaitlyn Cox, Silas and Dylan Hopper; and two sisters, Barbara Johnson and Nancy Cox.

A private family interment will be held at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. A public Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
