October 28, 1962-October 19, 2021
Stephen Mark Shurden, "Steve" as his friends knew him, "Mark" to his family, passed away peacefully from this life at 9:00am on October 19, 2021 at the age of 58. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Estol "Papa" and Clara "Mom" Shurden and Forest and Louise McClung, and his parents, "Big" Steve Shurden and Diana "Sue" Shurden-Coats. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Teresa Shurden, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Joseph Cutrona, daughter Jaimie Shurden, son, Michael Morris, grandchildren Jace, Jeremiah, Emberlee, and Journee Cutrona, sister and brother-in-law Cathy and Jeff Marchino, and step-father Hugh Coats. He will be lovingly remembered by a host of in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Steve was born in Henryetta on October 28, 1962 to Steve and Sue. He lived in Henryetta until he was 18 years old, where he met the love of his life, Teresa and had his first daughter Jennifer. After completing a degree from Oklahoma State University in Okmulgee, Steve, Teresa and Jennifer moved to Wylie, Texas so that Steve could begin his career at Texas Instruments as a Technical Engineer. Steve and Teresa built a life in Texas over the next 20 years and added Jaimie to their family. At 40, Steve set out on another venture and moved his family back to Oklahoma to work with his father at the family funeral home business and pursue a degree in nursing from his alma mater. Steve would go on to have a successful 18-year nursing career in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Steve will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, Poppi, Christian and nurse. He loved to have a good time and make people laugh. He was full of life and adventure and he enjoyed sharing that with all of those around him. He was bold and passionate in all of his endeavors. He loved many things: fishing, skiing, football, music, BBQ, travel, coffee, Sunday naps, lifting weights, his grand dog Lexie and a good Chinese buffet; but none as much as he loved spending time with his family. He loved being a nurse and caring for people and he loved fighting for a cause. Steve will be fondly thought of and missed by those that loved him.
