Sibyl Alice Chancey, a resident of the Bryant Community, was born May 13, 1910 in Rodney, Arkansas to Ansley and Mattie Jones. Sibyl and her family moved to Bryant, Oklahoma in 1926. She passed away April 22, 2011 at her home in Bryant at the age of 100 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was married for 49 years to Henry Jackson Chancey, who preceded her in death. Sibyl’s life revolved around her family, her church and her teaching. She was a loyal charter member of Bryant Community Church, which she helped construct and where she served in numerous capacities. She was a school teacher in Okmulgee County for 30 years, serving as an inspiration for countless young lives. She retired from Henryetta Schools in 1972. Sibyl is survived by her two children, Durward Chancey and Jacklyn Houghton, both of Bryant; four grandchildren, Dusty Chancey and wife, Kari of Bryant, Devin Chancey and wife, Beverly of Bryant, Beth Stafford and husband, Randy of Maysville, OK and Cindy Eacret and husband, Jim of Okmulgee; eleven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and “Special Angels.” Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Henryetta with Reverend Robert Hunnicut and Reverend George Christy officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Weleetka under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home of Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Dusty Chancey, Devin Chancey, Jim Eacret, Randy Stafford, Mark Johnson and Eric Stafford. Honorary Pallbearers will be her “Bryant Kids.” Visitation will be held Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta.
