Shirley Wanda Cusher

November 5, 1938 — March 18, 2022

Wanda Shirle Wolfe Cusher was born on November 5, 1938 in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma to Rev. Elum and Eula Perry Wolfe. Shirley, Wanda, Nanny, Granny or Ma as she was called, promoted to Glory the morning of March 18, 2022 at Fountain View Nursing Home in Henryetta.

Shirley grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School in 1956, and attended Eastern State College, where she met Houston Cusher and they married on October 21, 1957. Shirley and Houston made their home in Tulsa, attending Witt Memorial and Tulsa Indian Methodist churches. In later years, she returned to Rock Creek and then Cedar Baptist church.

She worked as a secretary at OTASCO, Indian Health Resource Center and lastly at Townsend Claim Services. She loved to sing and had a strong soprano and alto voice, leading music at Bowen Indian Baptist and she loved traveling to all night gospel singings all over Southeast Oklahoma with the Tulsa Ladies Quartet and with her sister Betty and Joe Coley as "Jubilee".

Shirley Cusher knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, so when she shed her tired, earthly body, she stepped straight into the loving embrace of Jesus Christ and the glory of Heaven. She is reunited with her husband, Houston, her baby son, her precious grandson Kenny, her parents, siblings and many dear friends.

She is survived by daughters, Lucille Abbott and son-in-law, Mark,of Mounds, Cassandra Marris and son-in-law, Kendell,of Shawnee, son, Darrell Cusher and daughter-in-law, Kathey, of Idabel, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, sister, Betty Dixon, of LeFlore, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Schaudt's Okmulgee Funeral Service in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Graveside service will take place at Cedar Baptist Church, Red Oak, Oklahoma at a later date.
