Shirley Mae Powell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 80. Born on June 6, 1944, in Clark Mills, New York, to her late parents Guy and Myrtle Duket, Shirley lived a life rich with family, friendship, and unforgettable memories.
Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Bill Powell, who shared a lifetime of laughter and love with her. She was the cherished mother of Scott Dresslaer, Dan Dresslaer and his wife Lois, and loving mother-in-law to Philip White. She took immense pride in her family and was the treasured grandmother to Josh Dresslaer and his wife Jennifer, Justin White and his wife Brittany, Jeremy Dresslaer, Katie Craddock and her husband Zach, Zach Dresslaer, Meghen Dressaler, and Paige Aaron and her husband Dan. Her joy only multiplied as her family grew, and she delighted in her great-grandchildren, Austin White, Axton White, Alexis White, Dexter Dresslaer, Eleanor Dresslaer, and Dutton Craddock. She is also survived by her sister, Mary. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mechelle White, as well as her parents and siblings, Jeannie, James, Earl, Claud and Harry.
Shirley was a true firecracker, standing under five feet tall but with a heart and spirit that filled every room. Known for her quick wit and infectious humor, she had a joke for every occasion and encouraged those around her to laugh often. She could frequently be found with a golf club in hand, enjoying time outdoors. She was an avid canasta and dominos player, always up for a good game and a friendly competition.
Shirley loved to stay connected, and it was no secret that she could spend hours on the phone, especially with her daughter, catching up and sharing laughs. She enjoyed family visits and road trips, having traveled to places like New York, Washington D.C., and Branson.
Shirley's home was a gathering spot, especially during the holidays. Every Christmas, her house was filled with warmth, love, and laughter as her family gathered together, a tradition that brought her immense happiness. The lake was her peaceful retreat, a place where she could relax with family and friends.
A private family service will be held in her honor. Shirley will be remembered with deep affection for her loving spirit, unbreakable family bonds, and the countless ways she brought light to all who knew her. She will be missed beyond words but cherished in our hearts forever.
