Shirley Ann Dillon "Shirl Ann" passed away early Sunday morning, May 10, 2015 at her Tulsa residence. She was born January 9, 1931 in Chicago to Frank and Florence Konczal. During her early years growing up, Shirl Ann was a gymnast and student. She met her husband and became a Route 66 Traveler which led to her becoming a Californian.
She was loved by so many friends. Some friendships, such as Corrine and Becky, span over 50 years. Shirl Ann became whatever her family needed her to be such as a homemaker, decorator, chef, school taxi driver, organizer, as well as a trip and party planner. She became quite the risk taker when her husband announced his wonderful plan of selling their beautiful home to live on a boat. Redondo Beach, California at Portofino Marina became her new home. She was a skipper, map reader, fisherman, hook baiter, depth finder, knot tieing specialist, wood refinisher, Coast Guard Auxillary Flotilla member, and winner of numerous floating Christmas display contests and a "regular" at the weekend spot on Catalina Island. After a couple of years at the helm, she became a lover of the land, condo owner, and The American Business Woman's Woman of the Year.
In later years she became a student at a local Bible College and a frequent traveler to northern California to spend time with family and grandchildren. During retirement, she became a very active volunteer and held an administrative position with a national ministry. Again in her quest for knowledge, she returned to school and became a college student. She was honored to be the oldest graduate in her class at California State University in Sacramento. She went on to attain her teaching credentials and became a substitute teacher that worked many endless hours, and as a Special Education Teacher her assignments spanned Kindergarten through High School.
In 2006, she became a retiree again, as well as an “Okie”. During her time in Oklahoma, she enjoyed painting, playing bridge, shopping, playing Mah Jongg and Bunko, and telling jokes. She was an "always on-the-go" type of gal. She loved being with her friends who were so supportive and helpful enabling her to enjoy living her life to the fullest.
Shirl Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Burton R. Dillon, Sr. She is survived by those that called her Mom: Colleen Arnold (Ron), Burton R. Dillon, Jr. (Joan), and Lynn Krogstad (Mike); those that called her Grandmama: Ron Arnold, Jr., Krista DeWine, Burton Dillon III, Brent Dillon, Joshua Krogstad, Timothy Krogstad, John Shivers and Matthew Shivers; and her great-grandchildren: Gabriella Rozell, Mikayla Krogstad, Elisha Krogstad, Julia Krogstad, Kylee Krogstad, Maximus Krogstad, and Leilani DeWine.
