Sherman Lee Lummus passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the age of 76.
Sherman was one of six kids, born on August 26, 1945 in Henderson, TX to his parents, James and Mildred (Wyatt) Lummus.
Sherman proudly served our country in the Army, which he joined at a very young age.
Sherman worked in the Transportation unit - 4th Armored Division in the Army. After three tours in Vietnam, and two purple heart commendations, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. When he was out of the Army he continued working in transportation for the trucking industry, hauling large loads all across the country for many years. Eventually he worked for a local freight company, which allowed him to be home with his family every night. Sherman also joined the National Guard and ultimately retired after serving a combined 20 years.
He married the love of his life, Millie Lewis April 2, 1988 and they spent 33 years together raising a family and enjoying life. In retirement they spent their time enjoying their grandkids as well as a new hobby. They joined a local club of SASS - Single Action Shooting Society, a world-wide organized sport that supports the use of firearms from the late 1800's in a friendly, timed competition with other clubs target shooting. His favorite guns were two .45 pistols, a Winchester 73 rifle with lever action and a 12-gauge shotgun. While participating they traveled to several states to compete in matches with other clubs. While participating, they always dressed up in their cowboy attire typical for that period in history. What Sherman and Millie enjoyed most were the lifelong friends that they made, who they affectionately refer to as their "cowboy" family.
Sherman was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Sapulpa.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Don and Joe Lummus and sister Darlene Lummus.
Sherman leaves many loving memories with his family, wife Millie Lummus; daughter Shiree Ekstrand; son Sherman Lummus Jr., stepson Bryan Bailey, daughter Shelley Lummus; his sister Billie Forest and brother J.W.
