Sara Zoila Diaz, 81, died on August 8th, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born January 20th, 1937, in Camaguey, Cuba, to Miguel Curro and Zoila Padron. She was united in marriage to Luis B. Diaz, on November 24th, 1958, in Camaguey, Cuba. She came to the United States in August, of 1962, and in January of 1963, found herself in Tulsa, with only her husband and small son. She was a business owner for over 30 years. Sara enjoyed her family most and her life was dedicated to her husband, son, daughter, son-in-law and daughter-in-law and grandchildren. This coming November would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. She was very active in both her children’s parish school and church. She was the matriarch of the family, she was the one person everyone turned to when they needed encouragement, a shoulder to cry on or just a friend to talk to. When times seemed hectic, she had a way to make sense of things, and calm the situation. She was known as “Manny” to her grandkids and took care of each of them with endearing love when they were young. Her faith was strong, and she prayed the Rosary each night. She was, and still is, admired and loved by all who met her. Although she would tell you she didn’t like to cook, she was great at making meals, and her traditional Christmas Cubano dinner was always epic. Food for her, was a way to draw the family together and to keep everyone close. She was loved by all beyond measure and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel Curro and Zoila Padron .
She is survived by her loving husband; Luis B. Diaz, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Children Luis Antonio Diaz, and Sarita Zoila Diaz Pilkington, both of Tulsa. Daughter-in-law Leslie Diaz and Son-in-law Charlie Pilkington; Brother, Juan Ramon Curro Padron, of Camaguey, Cuba; Grandchildren Alexandra Diaz, Charlie Pilkington, Michael Pilkington, Gabrielle Pilkington and Andrew Pilkington and a host of dear and loving friends.
