Samuel Dean Deere was born January 20, 1950, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Isaac Deere and Selee Roberts Deere. Sam entered the spirit world on October 15, 2022 at the age of 72 years.
Sammy spent his younger years growing up in Okmulgee where he attended Montesoma Baptist Church. He was Baptized by Rev. Solomon Bullet.
After graduating high school in 1969, he attended Haskell Indian Junior College in Lawrence, Kansas.
Sam felt the calling to serve his country and joined the US Marines in December 1973. Serving until August 1975 whereupon he earned an honorable discharge as a Sergeanta. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Letter of Commendation (US Army), Basic Parachute Insignia, Navy and Marine Corps Parachute Insignia, Letter of Appreciation, Meritorious Mast Rifle Expert Badge, and Good Conduct Medal.
Sam spent the majority of his working years as a quality control inspector and a machinist. He operated a lathe, worked at Texas Instruments and later for Joy Global.
Sam moved back to Okmulgee in March of 2020. He enjoyed spending time with family that still lives there and catching up with lifelong friends and family he had not seen in years.
Preceding Sam in death, his wife, Sandra Gaye (McKenzie) Deere, parents Isaac and Selee Deere, brothers Eunice, Tom, Robert, Wilson, and wife Louise.
Sam leaves many loving memories with his family to cherish, sister Roberta Deere Pickett and husband Gary; sister-in-law Elizabeth Deere, all of Okmulgee, OK; Special niece Enid (Deere) Baugess of Muskogee, OK; great niece Tracy Pickett of Okmulgee, OK; several nieces and nephews as well as numerous great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. Also surviving Sammy is his daughter, Sandra, and husband Jose Negrett, along with four grandkids, Paul and Michael Garza and Desirae and Nicholas Lopez, all of Palmer, TX.
Wake service will begin at 7:00 PM Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Belvin Baptist Church, 320 N Mission Road, Okmulgee, OK 74447.
Funeral Services honoring Sammy will be 2:00 PM Friday, October 21, 2022 at Belvin Baptist Church with Pastor Willie Pigeon officiating.
Burial will follow at Montesoma Cemetery. Military Honors provided by the U.S. Marine Corps Funeral Honors Team.
