Shawn's mother Sammye J. Hughes passed peacefully with her closest friends & Hospice by her side late Tuesday evening, May 30th. Shawn will be forever grateful for her bringing him into this world and he loved her dearly. Her last words before passing were 'Hi Daddy, I love you! Hi Mama, Hi Mama!...referring to Shawn's beloved Grandparents, Ralph & Pauline Hughes. We believe she was also greeted by her brothers and sisters whom went before her, John Frederick, Carolyn Kay, Paula Sue and Kimberley Hughes.
She is survived by her son Shawn Michael Hughes, his wife and son, Holly Michelle and Blake Alexander, her brothers Tommy, Charles R. ‘Butch’ Hughes, Mark Alan Hughes, and her sister Karen Hughes, and by her adored kitty-cat Twinkles. Sammye was also survived by some additional special persons we consider family to whom Shawn extends much gratitude and thankfulness for both Darla Sharp, her daughter Angela, and Wade Sharp. Their collective caring, giving, and unwavering commitment and friendship sustained Sammye over the years through many hardships, especially these past few years as she battled her health issues. Shawn and the entire Hughes family will be forever grateful to Darla, Angela and Wade. In addition, Shawn would also like to give a special heartfelt ‘thank you’ to both Dustin and Mandy, Sammy's next door neighbors who were so helpful and caring in so many ways this past year. Included in our gratitude is Richard, a long-time friend of Sammye’s who was there for her on so many occasions and whom made a real difference. We also want to recognize the Hospice care-takers who were God sent and were so caring to her needs and all without question are ‘gifted in their calling’ to do what they do during these last stages of a person’s life.
The Hughes family wants to extend a sincere appreciation to The Schaudt Family and team, including Chassi Kopec for their care and serving families with such dignity and understanding. Stephen and Dan Schaudt were both so helpful this month of May which included the loss of Holly’s father, Warren Hensley.
To all I have mentioned, we thank God for you and all your love and giving to Sammye during her life and final stages. Darla, Angela and Wade – words simply cannot express how grateful Shawn is for all that you did and gave of your time and yourselves for so many years for Sammye.
Shawn would like to leave these words for every reader of his appreciation: ‘Give, and it shall be given unto you, pressed-down, shaken together and running over, shall God give back to you, through the hands of men that you may give again’. Luke 6:38. Giving is a privilege and joy that is vital to those around us, our communities, and vital to our mind, body and souls and will change the giver’s life and the receiver’s life, an undisputable truth and principal in the glorious ways of The Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
