Sam Proctor, 83, of Okmulgee, OK, passed away Friday, January 13th, 2017 at Saint Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family.
Sam was born in Hanna, OK on April 14, 1933, a son of the late Maggie (Beaver) and Johnson Proctor. He enjoyed playing bingo, was very involved and a cultural activist for Creek Nation. Sam served as the Medicine Man for the ceremonial grounds for over 30 years and was the creator of the Thursday night Creek Singing gathering. He loved to travel, and cheer on his New York Yankees. He worked as a Carpenter and in his younger years he was a traveling evangelist.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and an infant daughter.
He is survived by his six sons: David Proctor of Okmulgee, Michael Proctor of Henryetta, Reubun Proctor of Winslow, AZ, Marcus Proctor of Okmulgee, William Proctor of Okmulgee, and Sam Proctor Jr. of Okmulgee; four daughters: Lydia Brown of Morris, Elizabeth Proctor of Okmulgee, Marcie Bell of Okmulgee, Samara Bell of Philadelphia, MS; one brother: James Proctor of Glenpool; twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, a special friend: Connie Brown of Bethany along with a host of other family members and friends.
