Ruth Bernice Williams

July 19, 1941 — February 18, 2019

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Ruth Wiliams will be held at the Schaudt's Funeral Service Chapel, of Tulsa, Wednesday, Febraury 27, 2019, at 2:00 PM.

Ruth Bernice Williams left this life peacefully surrounded by family and friends on February 18, 2019 at the age of 77. Born July 19, 1941 to Amey and William Glidewell in Tulsa, she was the 7th of 10 children. Ruth is preceded in death by brothers Roger, Tommy, Billy and sisters Emma Jean, Geraldine, Katherine, and Betty. Ruth is survived by siblings Lois Arter and Howard Glidewell, and many friends and relatives too numerous to count.

Ruth married her sweetheart John Williams and together they raised two children, David and Janice. Many years were spent on a ranch by Okmulgee lake where they raised cattle. They eventually gave up farm life and moved back to the city. They attended Beams of Light Church where Ruth and her daughter Janice taught together in the children’s church.

Although Ruth and John went their separate ways after 47 years of marriage, they were still the best of friends. John always stepped up to help Ruth, mowing her lawn or fixing whatever. He would stop in for a cup of coffee and she was always happy to see him. It was a genuine friendship.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Janice Murray and husband Dan; and son David Williams. Ruth leaves behind her grandchildren who were truly the lights of her life - Steven and Nathan Moreland, and Kailey, Abby, and Hunter Williams. Besides loving and talking about the Lord, there was nothing she loved more than her grandkids. She was hands-on from the moment they were born. As they got older, she often took them to the Space Museum, rock shows, parks, teaching them to sew or cook, and teaching them math at a young age with M&M’s. If she wasn’t teaching them something, she was explaining the facets of the universe or some other topic that she shared in her own special way. We used to call her Dr. Ruth because she seemed to know the answer to all of life’s problems. Vitamins were the answer to practically everything.

Ruth loved family and God. An avid reader, she read the Bible from cover to cover many times and often quoted scriptures to anyone who needed wisdom or a good dose of the gospel. She believed in the power of prayer, healing and anointing with oil. If Ruth knew you, you could be sure she was praying for you. Ruth will be greatly missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charity Samaritan’s Purse.
