Russell Leon Wheeler of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the age of 91 years. Russell was born on August 9, 1932, in Briartown, Oklahoma, the second of three sons to Arthur Wheeler and Mae Era (Barnes) Wheeler.

Russell's journey through life was marked by a diverse array of experiences and passions. He graduated from Blackwell High School in 1950 and soon after proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army. Following his military service, Russell ventured into the oil industry overseas before returning home to witness the birth of his first daughter.

Throughout his career, Russell thrived as a salesman, demonstrating a knack for selling a variety of products, from insurance to medical supplies. His professional journey culminated in a successful 30-year stint as a salesman eventually retiring from Able Rents. Beyond work, Russell cultivated several cherished hobbies. He was an avid cigar enthusiast, known for his collection and almost weekly shipments of specially ordered cigars. Russell also had a deep appreciation for country music. He was a dedicated fan of George Jones, he enjoyed listening to his music and often found solace with a good book, or a fishing rod in hand. His enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures and his warm storytelling spirit endeared him to many.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mae Era, and his brothers, Charles and Bill.

He is survived by his daughters, Monita Taylor and Marcia Biernesser; grandchildren, Amber Rettke, Jaimie Mizell, Julianna Denum (and husband Sam Denum), and Kylee Nelson (and husband Dexter Nelson II); and three great-grandchildren, Dexter, Levi, and Dahlia.
