Ruby "Jean" (Steeples) Watkins (98) of Jenks, Oklahoma peacefully entered eternal rest on the afternoon of August 5th, 2024 at Bartlesville Assisted Living.
Jean was born at home on August 30, 1925, in Red Fork, OK, the daughter of the late Alva and Ruby May (Mulligan) Steeples. Jean grew up in the Sapulpa-Glenpool area where she met Charles H. Watkins while in high school. They married on May 30, 1943, shortly after she graduated. Jean and Charles had two daughters, Carla (Watkins) Pies and the late Rhonda (Watkins) Johnson. Jean worked a number of years with the Frankoma Pottery company and enjoyed painting and pottery-making. In 1975, Jean and Charles opened, and operated, their own pottery company, Muddobbers, which they ran for a number of years. In 1993 she inherited the Route 66 Mobile Home and RV Park where she proceeded to run a successful and prosperous business until 2018, when she finally retired at the age of 92. Jean was a dedicated member of her community and devoted Christian, volunteering many years with her church, Sapulpa First Baptist, and with the Lions Club. Jean very much enjoyed travelling, visiting family at "The Lake", spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, walking with her friends, and playing cards and Mexican Train Dominoes. Jean was a tremendous patriot and supporter of Veterans. Jean volunteered to sell war-bonds during her husband's extensive deployment during WWII and continued to donate regularly to Veteran service organizations until her final months.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Watkins; parents, Alva and Ruby Mae Steeples; siblings, Bob, Ted, Helen, Bertha, Billy, and Edna; and her daughter, Rhonda (Watkins) Johnson. Jean is survived by her daughter Carla (Ken) Pies; son-in-law Rodney Johnson; grandchildren Tara (Charles) Skannes, Todd (Jen) Johnson, Nicole (Mark) Kaplan, Seth (Rachael) Johnson, Shaun (Caroline) Pies; great-grandchildren Michael Kelly, Dylan Kaplan, Preston Kaplan, Kaitlyn Kaplan, Charles Johnson, William Johnson, Kendall Skannes, Amelie Pies, Rowen Johnson, and Aiden Wolfe Pies; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Jean was a testament to determination and hard work. She was an independent, active, funny, occasionally stubborn, but always loving mother, sister, grandmother, wife, community member, and Christian. She leaves behind years of beautiful memories and family and friends who will miss her greatly.
