Ruby Gleaton, at the age of 80 passed away Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025. Full of life and always ready with a smile or a joke, Ruby brought light and laughter to every room she entered.
Born to Elizabeth “Thompson” Wacoche, a beloved church song leader, and Willie Wacoche, a devoted pastor, Ruby was raised in faith and tradition. Her vibrant spirit and quick wit reflected the strength and joy of her upbringing. She was a full-blood Muskogee Creek, deeply connected to her heritage and community. Being of a matrilineal society she is of the Tvkvpvtce tribal town and a member of the Wotko (Raccoon) Clan of the Muskogee Creek Nation.
Ruby was a proud alumna of Sequoyah High School, where she played basketball and developed a lifelong love for the game. Whether she knew the players or not, Ruby could be found in the stands, cheering on her beloved Sequoyah teams with unwavering enthusiasm.
She found joy in simple pleasures-fishing at her favorite spots, picking wild onions in the spring, and challenging friends and family to games of shuffleboard and dominos. But above all, Ruby's heart belonged to her grandchildren.
Ruby is survived by two daughters Elizabeth Rhoden and Debra Daniels. Sister Norma Jean “Wacoche” Berryhill. Grandkids Johnny Dale Tucker, Cassie Lynn Fine, Cecil John Rhoden III, Chris Daniels, Brady Daniels, Kolby Daniels, and Jesse Daniels. Ruby is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Preceding Ruby in death are her parents Willie and Elizebeth “Thompson” Wacoche, Husband Duke Gleaton, Sisters Pauline McCombs, Ramona Lincoln, and Janie Wacoche also brothers Benjamin Wacoche and Butch Wacoche.
Ruby's life was a testament to joy, love, and tradition. Her laughter was contagious, her stories unforgettable, and her presence irreplaceable. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but especially by those who had the honor to call her mother, grandmother, and friend.
May her spirit rest in peace, and may her legacy of love and laughter live on in all whose lives she touched.
