Roy Guy Harney of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from this life on Monday, July 18, 2022. He was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on Sunday, August 1, 1943, to Roy Sr. and Barbara Sue Harney.
Growing up on a piece of the famous 101 Ranch, his parents taught him the value of hard work and the importance of family. His experience growing up on a farm gave him an appreciation and love for the outdoors. Upon graduating high school, Roy attended Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Roy was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity where he gained many lifelong friends. Roy continued his love of learning at the University of Tulsa, pursuing his master's in petroleum engineering.
During his time at Oklahoma State, he met the love of his life, Sharon (McComber) Harney. They married on Saturday, May 29, 1965, and built a remarkable life together for 57 years. Soon after, they moved to upstate New York to pursue a career with IBM as a mathematician and computer scientist. Realizing his love for his cowboy roots and farm upbringing, he and Sharon moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then to Aurora, Missouri to follow their dream of ranching. His desire to raise his family in Tulsa led him to his final career path, the oil and gas industry.
His greatest accomplishments in life were his two beloved children and three precious grandchildren. He always enjoyed telling tall tales to his grandchildren which kept the kids on their toes and smiles on their faces. Even before retirement, he loved traveling, cheering on his OSU Cowboys, reading, fishing, and hunting. He loved riding horses when he could and was nicknamed the "horse master" by those he rode alongside. Roy traveled to many countries, most notably to Africa which was a true joy for him. Of all the adventures he had, traveling and making memories with his family were his favorite.
Rooted and raised in faith, Roy firmly believed in the power of prayer. He lived his life through scripture and loved learning biblical history. He trusted in God's will, even in the difficult seasons of life.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Harney. He is further survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Scott Ambrister; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Katie Harney; his grandchildren, Barrett and Emery Ambrister and Andrew Harney; his brother and sister-in-law, Orvill and Barbara Harney; his sister-in-law Diana Farmer along with other family members and friends.
Roy will be remembered and celebrated for his kindness, compassion, generosity, and quick wit. He was truly interested in the well-being of others and ready to help when needed. His sense of humor combined with his love of learning made him a joy to be around.
