Ronnie Lee Williams age 76, got his wings and went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 20, 2018 at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his loving family by his side. He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 24, 1942 to Leo and Mamie Williams. Ronnie was the hardest working man his family knew. He spent his years working as a maintenance man and eventually became Maintenance supervisor for Facet/Quantek. He could fix absolutely anything that you needed fixed; he was the best MacGyver of all. If Ronnie couldn’t fix it, it was definitely time to throw it away. He married the love of his life Carol Sue McHenry on October 20, 1961 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The two of them were set up on a blind date by his niece, Patty Miller and on their first blind date his niece and friend Jimmy Hinds pulled up to the curb in a 1951 Ford with no paint; just primer. Carol (Susie, he called her Susie not Carol) came out of the door and kinda bounced from the porch onto the side walk and Ronnie told his friend who was in the back seat of the car, “You can have her.” Susie and Jimmy had a such a good time that night dancing and laughing and the next weekend Ronnie called Susie and asked for their first date together and from that point forward the rest was history as they have spent 56 years of marriage together and had 4 beautiful loving children.
They doubled dated with Patty and her boyfriend Hughey about every weekend for about six months. After Hughey left for the Air Force, they had their first single date and were so bored they went over and picked up Patty. One time, Ronnie’s car wasn’t running, and he pulled up in his dad’s borrowed pickup truck with no seats so he sat on a bucket and she sat on a milk crate.
Ronnie’s children would tell you he was the best dad in the world; from letting the girls curl his hair when they were younger, to taking all 4 of their adult children on a memorial Route 66 road trip in the Motorhome in 2015. The family times were some of their favorite memories that will always be cherished. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to go fishing and camping especially when the children were growing up. He enjoyed motorcycles and tinkering on anything in his man cave. He was addicted to playing angry birds and Candy Crush on his iPad and iPhone and scrolled through Facebook every day catching up on family and friends; commenting and sharing on all his family members post was his favorite. Ronnie’s grandson Brandon, would tell you that he taught him everything that he knows and he wouldn’t be the person he is today without him. If you knew Ronnie you knew that he never went anywhere without a little black comb in his pocket because he always had to make sure he had the best looking hair; which he did. He was always being complimented on his hair up to the very last day in the hospital. That always brought a smile to his face and a Thank You.
The last date Carol and Ronnie ever went on was to the 2018 Straight Up Route 66 George Straight concert at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Their four children gave them the tickets for Christmas. They had the children drop them off and Ronnie had to be on a scooter, so Carol got to ride on a scooter right next to him and the two rode in side by side and sang the night away until 11:30PM. Country music and Southern Gospel were his favorite songs you could find him always singing or whistling along too; He had a great voice and played the guitar in his younger years. He was also the best whistler around. There wasn’t ever a time where you couldn’t say a word and Ronnie wouldn’t burst out in song about the subject you were talking about which included the word in the lyrics. He was a loving husband, father, brother, Papaw and friend and everyone who knew him adored him. He loved his Children, and Grandchildren and was always so glad when they came to visit.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his mother and father, 3 brothers Melvin, Gene, Eldon, 3 sisters Jacqueline Miller, Faye Boyce Equells, Reeda Webb and their precious granddaughter Anna Phillips.
