Robert Edward Peterson, 82, a longtime resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Sunday, April 14.
R.E. was born on March 19, 1937, in Lamesa, Texas, to Robert Olen and Myrl (Carmichael) Peterson. He grew up in Dora, New Mexico, and attended Dora High School. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Eastern New Mexico University. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Monte Redding, whom he married in 1959. He married Leslie Martin in 1993. R.E. was a meticulous and tenacious businessman, holding chief managerial positions in several businesses, including Pepsi/Frito-Lay, Hemispherx Biopharma, and Omni Group. He was strong but gentle, quick-witted, with a discriminating sense of humor. We will miss his passion for travel, fishing, gardening, and lawncare, as well as his inability to be barefoot in any situation.
R.E. is survived by his wife Leslie; his sister Netta (Peterson) Nolen; his brother and sister-in-law Bennie and Carol Peterson; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert Dale and Lee Ann Peterson; his daughter, Darby Peterson; and his stepson and daughter-in-law, John and Kristen Coatney. He has six grandsons - Austin Peterson, Ryan Peterson, Jordan Peterson, Charles Coatney, Judah Coatney, and one on the way; one granddaughter - Danielle Peterson; and one great-grandson - Easton Peterson. In addition to Monte, he is preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Crystal Coatney.
His funeral service and reception will be held on April 27th at 10 a.m. at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. Per R.E.’s request, please consider a donation to St. Dunstan’s (or your favorite charity) in lieu of flowers.
