Using a bicycle for transportation, fourteen-year-old Bob Miller discovered his life's occupation while searching for summer work. When advised to inquire at a nearby location, he found himself working for the horticulture department of Case Western Reserve University in Ohio. This effort led to a bachelor's of science degree in horticulture from Case Western and a master's degree with an emphasis in floriculture from Ohio State University.
Over the years Bob has grown acres of plants while never losing his enthusiasm for creating something beautiful. A career that began in Ohio State ultimately led to a job in Oklahoma where he ran the largest wholesale greenhouse in a a 5-state area before he was recruited by the horticulture department of Oklahoma State University.
Because he loved his students and they loved him, he was a popular man on the Oklahoma City campus, where he became department head, and received honors from his peers. Notable of his achievements was the establishment of the All-American trial gardens that has continued to be a source of pride for the university.
Retirement from Oklahoma State did not stop Bob's love for flowers, and before long he found himself managing the greenhouses for Southwood Nursery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bob ended his long career at 80 years of age and never lost his enthusiasm for life.
With a passion for cars, he became the national president of Porsche Club of America, and was a member for over 60 years, with friends across America and in Germany. His ready laughter and generous spirit made Bob Miller a most special person.
