In Loving Memory of Robert Anthony (Tony) Lawrence
The sun rose on Robert Anthony Lawrence on July 13th, 1946, and the sun set on October 5th, 2023, as he was surrounded by his loving family. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved son, brother, father, and friend.
Tony, as he was affectionately known, was born on that warm July day in 1946 in Hominy, Oklahoma, to proud parents Walter Lawrence and Roberta (Walker) Lawrence. He grew up in a loving home, surrounded by the care and support of his family. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with purpose and adventure.
Throughout his life, Tony was a devout member of Greater Grace Apostolic Temple, Inc., where he found spiritual guidance and a sense of community. His faith was an essential part of his journey and provided him with strength and solace during trying times.
Tony's dedication to his country was unwavering. He served and fought for the United States as a proud member of the Marine Corps for eight years, rising to the rank of Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge in 1973. His service was marked by bravery and a deep commitment to defending the freedoms and values he held dear.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Roberta, and his stepfather, Roscoe Verner. Tony leaves behind cherished memories for his three brothers and three sisters, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. But most importantly, he leaves behind his beloved daughter, Shanielle Mathews, who was a constant source of pride and joy in his life. Tony's legacy also extends to a vast circle of family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness, humor, and unwavering support.
Tony's life was a testament to the values of dedication, service, and faith. He touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered for his love, his commitment, and the indomitable spirit that he shared with those lucky enough to know him.
As we say our final goodbyes, we celebrate the life of Robert Anthony Lawrence, a man who lived with honor and love, leaving an enduring impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul find eternal peace and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
