Rita Mae Young

September 29, 1929 — June 30, 2021

Rita Mae Young, 91, was born a twin September 29, 1929, in Chelsea, Oklahoma to Zack and Etta Mae (Hemphill) Combs. She entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, with family at her side. Rita's childhood and youth were spent in Chelsea and Claremore, Oklahoma. She was Baptized and a member of the Claremore First Baptist Church. At the age of thirteen, she moved to Missouri, graduating from Granby High School in 1947. She married Willis (Bill) Capps on April 12, 1950, in Granby, Missouri. Bill and Rita had three children: Beverly Ruth Smith, Priscilla Ann Sakmary, and Michael Wayne Capps. Later, Rita married Harold Gene Sams and had her youngest son Phillip Scott (Fuzz) Sams. She was the stepmother to Rhonda Qualls and Bridgette Rhodes. Rita retired from Super-H grocery store in 1993. Years later, Rita ended up marrying Amandus JD Young a past high school sweetheart. She was the stepmother to Sue Ann Gull, JD Young, Brett Young and Al Young. Rita loved to sing and dance. She had an intense love for Big Band and Country music. She was an avid fisherman and loved traveling, but most of all, she loved her family. She shared her hobbies with all of her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite past-times was putting puzzles together with her grandchildren, children, and anyone who stopped by to visit. Rita and sister Ruth were inseparable twins whatever one did they both did. Once Rita and Ruth established families; they would surprise each other showing up to functions, without calling each other, in the same colors or the exact same outfit. When one was sick or felt pain, they both felt sick or experienced the pain. Needless to say, they were twins in the truest sense. Ruth always teased Rita that she was born 7 minutes before Rita; therefore, she was the eldest sister. Following that suit Ruth left this earth November 3. 2020 to pave the way and prepare things for her younger sister to soon join her.

Rita is survived by her children, Beverly Ruth Smith of Inola, Oklahoma, Priscilla (James) Sakmary of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Michael (Malissa) Capps of Jenks Oklahoma, and Phillip (Lisa) Sams of Jenks Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren: 23 great grandchildren: 5 great-great grandchildren.

Rita is preceded in death by her husband's Bill Capps, Gene Sams, and Amandus Young, her parents, sisters Bonnie Collins and Ruth Carter, and her brothers Zach and John Combs.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff/care givers that cared for Rita at Sand Plum, Colonial Oaks, and Roserock Hospice.
