Richard Kersey

November 26, 1940 — August 20, 2024

Richard Allen Kersey, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the age of 83.

Born on November 26, 1940, in Highland, IL, Richard was the cherished son of Norbert "Blondie" Huene and Nadine Holzhauer. He was the baby of five children. He spent his childhood in the Joplin and St. Louis areas of Missouri, where he developed a love for learning and a keen attention to detail that would later define his interests and career. He would later move to Texas.

Together with the first love of his life, Wilma Yost, Richard worked hard to build a life filled with love, laughter, and companionship. They were married in Arlington, Texas and became parents in 1969 with the birth of their beloved daughter, Christy Anderson. They cherished parenthood and remained devoted to each other until Wilma's passing in 2003.

Richard's work as a draftsman was a source of great pride and took his career to great heights. A highlight of his career was when he held top security clearance while working on the Apollo Spacecraft which landed the first man on the moon. Later he worked on plans for the Space Shuttle. He worked at Rockwell International and Fujitsu, where he earned a reputation for his meticulous work and dedication. His final retirement came in 2006, but his love for drawing persisted.

Later in life, Richard was fortunate to find love once more with Barbara Maxey, whom he met while volunteering at the food pantry of Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Tomball, TX. Together, they traveled the world, exploring Europe and enjoying several cruises, creating memories that Richard cherished deeply. Richard also loved spending time with Barbara's family who became near and dear to his heart.

In his retirement years, Richard often found solace in simple pleasures like sketching, tending to his garden, and sitting among the flowers he so lovingly nurtured. He was also a talented photographer, documenting his own life and that of his beloved family through thousands of photographs throughout the years.

Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wilma Kersey, his dear love, Barbara Maxey, his mother Nadine Holzhauer, father Norbert "Blondie" Huene, and sister Betty Jean Kersey Dayton. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his daughter, Christy Anderson; his son-in-law, Kyle Anderson; his grandchildren Brooke and Brandon Anderson, adoptive grandchild Holden Anderson; and siblings George Kersey, Shirley Kersey Gansman, Joann Kersey Oloteo, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
