Richard "Dick" Duane Secrest, 76, passed away peacefully at home in Tulsa with his family on Thursday, June 8, 2017. Born March 15, 1941 in Pana, IL to James and Ellen (Fortner) Secrest, he was the youngest of three children, raised in Owaneco, IL. Dick graduated from Taylorville High School, recently inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame for achievements in track, football, basketball and baseball. Dick became a proud member of the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes Baseball Team and Kappa Sigma Fraternity, earning a Bachelor and Master degree in Mathematics.
While at TU, Dick met the love of his life, Mary K. (Rickard) Secrest. They wed in Sharp Chapel on March 26, 1966, sharing 51 years of matrimonial bliss together. In his professional career, Dick and Mary K. lived in Florida, Louisiana and Tulsa. He retired from AMOCO as their Manager of Exploration. Dick enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing and most certainly grilling for his family. He has been an avid member of Asbury United Methodist Church, participating in the AUMC Men's Prayer Breakfast, Happy Christian Community Class and the Accountability Group. Dick was a rock for his family, sharing his relationship with Christ and often called to be a prayer warrior.
Dick loved the holidays with family and was a devoted husband, parent and grandparent. He is preceded in death by parents, James and Ellen (Fortner) Secrest; and siblings, James Keith Secrest and Phyllis Barger. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary K. Secrest, his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Kim Secrest of Tulsa, and his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle (Secrest) and Michael Taubman of Tulsa. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Secrest, Chloe and Michael J. Taubman, and his sister-in-law, Suzanne Rickard, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Memorial Service will be held June 26, 2017, 2:00pm at Asbury United Methodist Church in the Chapel, 6767 S. Mingo Rd, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard "Dick" Secrest may be made to the Youth Group of Asbury United Methodist Church.
