Raymond Osborne

October 1, 1943 — May 11, 2011

Raymond “Ray” Osborne, a former resident of Edmond, was born on October 1, 1943 at Coffeyville, Kansas and passed from this life on May 11, 2011 at the age of 67 after fighting a battle with cancer for 2 years. He is preceded in death by his father, Elek Van Buren Osborne and mother Marguerite Edith Ickelberry Osborne Lea, sister, Edith Jane Stapleton King, brother, Donald Jesse Osborne, and son, David Lee Osborne. He is survived by his wife Diana Osborne of Checotah, OK, sons, Tracy Osborne of Cocoa, FL, Chad Osborne and wife Whitney of Santa Barbara, CA, daughter, Lesley Demastus and husband Ryan of Colorado Springs, CO, brother, Rodney Osborne and wife Lynette of Tahlequah, OK, sister, Barbara Manford and husband Mandene of Hutchinson, KS, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Osborne of Oklahoma City, OK, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives who loved him dearly. Raymond was a self-made man who worked his way through life in auto repair, owning his own front end alignment business in Great Bend, Kansas specializing in working on trucks. He was always the expert for family and friends for car repair. He lost an eye during this time and for a good part of his life wore a patch over it. Many loved ones remember him with snow white hair and a black patch. The loss of an eye forced him into a career change, so he got a job selling radio commercials and jingles for Jingle Smith Production, Hutchison, Kansas. He was so well liked and easy to talk to that he became most successful in sales of oil and gas equipment with his sons, David and Chad for the last years of his life. Raymond loved sports, especially football and boxing. In his youth, Raymond played tight end on his school’s football team and won second place at the Oklahoma Golden Gloves AAU State Tournament in 1961. His relationship with God was a testimony to his many family and friends. Early in life he attended Bethany Nazarene Church in Hutchinson, Kansas and later Good Shepard Temple and Liberty Church in Oklahoma City. Raymond will be remembered as being so positive and encouraging. He refused to let people speak anything negative in his presence. He would tell humorous stories that would uplift and make you want to be around him. To the very end he stayed hopeful and light-hearted, encouraging everyone around him and finally telling his loved ones around him that he was ready to go home to be with his Lord. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Crosstown Pentecostal Church in Okmulgee, OK with Pastor Mark Allen officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta, OK.
