Randall Mayberry

August 5, 1934 — February 15, 2025

"The mountains are calling and I must go." John Muir

Randall Richard Mayberry was born August 5, 1934, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to William E. and Inez Sides Mayberry. He was the oldest of three children and was the big brother to Betty and Ed. He passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at his home in Sapulpa surrounded by his family.

Randall graduated from Guthrie High School in 1952, where he was active in ROTC. After his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the Air Force, following in the footsteps of his father, Brigadier General Mayberry. He completed four years of service, including a tour in Northern Africa. Once returning to the United States, his family re-located to the Tulsa area and later settled in Bixby, where he met the love of his life, the beautiful Sally Mitchell. Randall and Sally were married on April 25, 1958 in Bixby.

Randall graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1962 with a degree in business administration. After graduation, he started his accounting career, which eventually took him to Sapulpa, where he was well-known and well-respected as a certified public accountant from 1966-2003. Sally worked by his side in the successful business. During his career, Randall was active in Jaycees, Rotary Club and Sertoma.

He also was well-known for his dry sense of humor and quick wit and was revered for his integrity and loyalty to those he knew and loved. His free time was often spent tying flies for one of his favorite past times, fly fishing in the New Mexico mountains. He and Sally spent a great deal of time traveling to New Mexico and camping out. They developed a circle of friends that met up a couple of times a year to enjoy the crisp mountain air.

Randall is survived by his wife, Sally; his four children, Kent and Mendy Mayberry, Susan Smith, Jill and Dale McQueen, and Jay and Shannon Mayberry; grandchildren Spencer Mayberry, Natalie and Brett Baumgartner, Steven and Audra Smith, Brett and Alexis Smith, Taylor and Sarah Smith, Jessica and John Dillard, Andrew McQueen, Jessica Benson, Justin Mayberry, Joshua Mayberry, David and Brendan Vaughnfulk, William and Catherine Fulk, Kasey and Brandon Wade, Madison Mayberry, and Chase Mayberry; eight great grandchildren; and his brother, Ed Mayberry. He was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. and Inez Mayberry; his sister, Betty Matheson; and his son-in-law, Sherman Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Dementia Society of America.
