Ralph Vernon Meadors age 70 passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Ralph was born September 8, 1940 to Troy Alger Meadors and Lola Crystal (Parker) Meadors in Winfrey, Arkansas. Ralph was the youngest of five boys. His brothers were Nolan "Bob", Hoyt, Ervil and Ray Meadors.
As a young boy, Ralph grew up in Arkansas and loved dogs and pigeons. When Ralph was a teenager, he and his family moved to Los Angeles, California. There he started tinkering on old cars and fixing them up. He also started boxing, and became very talented at it. When he broke his nose for the last time, he gave it up.
On December 14, 1958 Ralph married his childhood sweetheart, Wilda Rae Lunsford. The two met and became friends when they were five years old and living in Arkansas. They were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, and lived in Los Angeles, California, where Ralph began working in a glass factory. In 1959, they had their first daughter, Jane.
Ralph and Wilda continued to live in Los Angeles until 1966 when they decided to move from the big city and try the country in Arkansas. They lived in Alma, Arkansas for over a year, and soon realized the country wasn't what they had expected it to be and moved back to Los Angeles in 1968.
In 1970, Ralph and Wilda decided to move closer to family and moved to Tulsa. Ralph transferred his employment to Kerr Glass in Sand Springs. He took a break from working at Kerr and started his own company, SS Medical Supplies. He operated his company for nearly six years then sold it and returned to Kerr Glass.
In 1979, Ralph and Wilda had a second daughter, Sumer. He became a new dad in older years and it somewhat made him young again; he and Wilda found themselves living the past over again. In 1989, his first grandson was born, and he became a grandpa.
Ralph loved his family, and was so proud of each and every one of them. He also loved the simple things in life. He was very easy going and easy to please. He always had a smile on his face and always had something to say and talk about. If you started a conversation with Ralph, you made sure you had time to spare.
Ralph was a very caring man, encouraging and considerate. If you were in a bad mood, or troubled with something, he'd be the one to talk to. He also had patience and could tolerate most anything. He generally thought positive and was optimistic. Though he had cancer, chronic pain and pneumonia, he kept going and didn't give up.
Ralph loved old gospel hymns and country music, and his favorites were listening to Elvis and Josh Turner.
But most importantly, Ralph loved the Lord. He read his Bible often and had a personal relationship with God. He loved to watch Reverend Creflo Dollar every evening and would encourage his family to do the same. A week before he passed, he invited his family to come visit him at the hospital. He told them that he had spoken to God and made that peace. He also wanted to say good-bye to his family, just in case there wasn't a tomorrow. Ralph new he would be leaving soon, and he was ready.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents: Troy and Lola Meadors; his brothers: Bob, Hoyt and Ervil; his grandchild: Rylei Hall; his life companion and wife: Wilda Rae Meadors (February 1, 2009).
He is survived by his daughters: Jane Aston and her husband, Bill of Jenks, Oklahoma; Sumer Gordon and her husband, Donnie of Wagoner, Oklahoma; his brother: Ray Meadors and his wife, Bettie of Clarkville, Arkansas along with his five precious grandchildren: Spencer and Taylor Aston, Bailie, Caidon and Avery Gordon.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Reverend Steven Lee will officiate.
