Phyllis Lea Spencer was born on May 24, 1950 in Manhattan, KS, to Leo Howard Ernst, Jr. and Barbara Jean (Redelfs) Ernst. She entered into the Lord’s rest on July 4, 2018 in Tulsa, OK.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of nearly 30 years, Tim Spencer, her two children, Wes Dotson and Hayley (and Cory) Meyer, her mother Barbara Ernst, and siblings Larry (and Pam) Ernst, Karen (and Jim) Davis, and Rodger (and Cathy) Ernst, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father Leo Ernst. As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend Phyllis will be dearly missed.
After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, Phyllis gave her life away in service to others. She first served for 35 years as a pre-school and kindergarten teacher of students with special needs-primarily at Oak Crest Elementary in Broken Arrow. She later served for 8 years as the Assistant Director at Happy Hands Education Center, a Christian school for children who are deaf and hard of hearing.
She was an active member of Highland Park Christian Church.
Phyllis Spencer’s Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am on July 14, 2018 at Highland Park Christian Church located on 5708 E. 31st St. Tulsa, OK, 74135. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Happy Hands Education Center.
