Pauline Lenora Belle June Swingle Wiles passed from the here-and-now into the Master’s eternity-that-is on November 8 at the age of 97. Pauline was a loving mother and grandmother, a gracious hostess, a strong Christian, and a woman whose faith and perseverance never faltered through all of life’s ups-and-downs.
Pauline was born to Nellie and Elmer Swingle in Kusa, Oklahoma, on June 8, 1920. She had an older sister, Ruth Jeanette Swingle Brooks. Pauline graduated from high school in Blackwell, Oklahoma, where she met her future husband William Tait Wiles. They were married on April 23, 1944 and enjoyed 30 years of marriage until his early death in 1974.
Pauline’s husband, Bill, was a Pearl Harbor survivor whose Navy career took the family to many locations including Hawaii and Alaska. After Bill’s death Pauline worked as an administrative assistant for the Corps of Engineers and the Air National Guard before retiring in Tulsa.
Pauline was an avid reader, a creative gardener, a flower arranger who captured first place ribbons at flower competitions, and a woman devoted to her family who looked forward to family gatherings. She was a life-long Presbyterian, an ordained Elder, a member of PEO, and a past president of Navy Wives.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister. She is survived by two sons William M. Wiles (Cynthia) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Jonathon P. Wiles of Ketchum, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Kelli Casteel (Tony), Justin Wiles (Courtney), Megan Bullock (Gary), Jonathon Wiles (Alyse), Amber Bruellisauer Burris (Wayne), and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express its deep appreciation for the care Pauline received at the Parks Edge Nursing Home and through the services of Grace Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Meals on Wheels Ministry at First Presbyterian Church, 709 South Boston, Tulsa, OK, 74119.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 18 in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church (Tulsa) with burial at the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family, online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
