Oral Cecil Goodwin (O.C.) was born to Colombus Goodwin and Mary Francis Holt- Goodwin on November 13th, 1922 in a log cabin just south of Boswell, Oklahoma. He passed into his heavenly home on July 11, 2012 at age 89. Oral was preceded in death by his parents and sister Derotha and brothers Bill, Otis, Franklin and Dwain. Oral grew up as a child in the Boswell & Hugo, Oklahoma area. He lived in Okmulgee since 1950. He served in World War II and was a POW. He received several awards and medals which included the Honorable Purple Heart. He believed, accepted and confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour and was saved and baptized at the age of 44 at Southside Baptist Church of Okmulgee where he served and worshipped until his passing. His livelihood was as a worker at a Glass Plant Company for 32 years until he retired at age 62. He was a member of the Okmulgee Round up Club. He enjoyed gospel, bluegrass, and country music. He loved people and was a horseman, fisherman and hunter. His surviving family includes wife Betty Goodwin of 65 years of marriage. Children/Husbands (4): Carl Goodwin, Carolyn & Larry Palmer, Charlotte and Larry Simpson, and Phyllis Goodwin all of Okmulgee. Grandchildren(9): Carla Fisher,Tammy Culp, Jody Morgan, Tina Tiffany, Chad Palmer, Kristie, Valerie and Cindy Goodwin & Mandy Soliz. Great Grandchldren: (14) Justin & Cheyenne Culp, Dakota Tiffany, Tanner & Mylee Soliz , Bryson & Nicole Palmer ,Allyssa & Brianna Goodwin & Kayla Looney, Sara & Phillip Fisher , Dallas Scott & Denver Hughes. Friends may visit the family at the Shurden-Jackson funeral home in Okmulgee between 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday July 12, 2012. Reverend Mike Kennedy and Pastor Ted Waller will officiate funeral services assisted by Gary Kelley, former owner of Kelley Funeral Home, to be held at the Southside Baptist Church in Okmulgee at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012. He will be laid to rest at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Joe Davenport, Bob Micheau, Eugene Wilbourn, Jay Beachel, Duane Gehle and Robert Gehle.
