Opal Mary (Earp) Pounds age 89 passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
Mrs. Pounds was born June 5, 1920 near Stigler, Oklahoma to Hugh E. Earp and Arlie (Flatt) Earp. She grew up in Lincoln County, Oklahoma and graduated from Chandler High School in 1939. She married Archie M. Pounds on January 14, 1940 and they enjoyed sixty-four years together before he passed away.
Opal was a woman of great faith and strong convictions. She always displayed a sweet, gentle and quiet spirit. She was a homemaker; an accomplished seamstress and liked to crochet. She was a student of God's word. Opal loved to read, work crossword puzzles and play board games. Once retired Opal and her husband enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing.
In July of 2007 Opal moved from Glenpool, Oklahoma to Natchitoches, Louisiana to be near her daughter and family. She was a resident of the Natchitoches Assisted Living facility at the time of her death.
Mrs. Pounds was preceded in death by her parents: Hugh and Arlie Earp; her beloved husband: Archie M. Pounds; her three brothers: Kenneth, Ernest and Wendell Earp.
Opal is survived by her one daughter: Geraldine Robideaux and her husband, Sammy of Natchitoches, LA; her two sons: Archie M. Pounds, Jr. and his wife, Lynnie of Tulsa, OK; Dr. Wayne E. Pounds and his wife, Nana of Tokyo, Japan; five grandchildren: LeGaye Young, Judith Dowd and husband, John David of Tulsa, OK; Krista Robideaux Schultz and husband, Bill of Natchitoches, LA; Heath Robideaux and wife, Michele of Crowley, LA; Shelly Pounds of Tokyo, Japan; eight great grandchildren: Wesley Young, Adam Young, Anna Young of Tulsa, OK; Justin Dowd, Jason Dowd of Tulsa, OK; Jill Wiltz of Natchitoches, LA, Brent Robideaux and Heidi Robideaux of Crowley, LA; one sister: Dena Phillips of Sandy, Utah, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, grand nephews and grand nieces.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:00 until 12:00 noon at First Assembly of God Church, 2100 E. 1st Street, Chandler, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church. Reverend Doyle Seeley will officiate. Interment will immediately follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler, Oklahoma.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers a memorial be given to the First Baptist Church of Natchitoches to purchase books for the church library.
