Omer Leroy Nicholson died Thursday February 3rd,2022 He was born March 20,1934 in Tulsa, Oklahoma the seventh child of Jesse Hill and Buena Vista (Akin) Nicholson. Though has was born in the Great Depression years, he never remembered his childhood as anything but happy and carefree. His father saw the family had the necessities of life- just not many toys. Living a few blocks outside the cities limits, they were able to keep cows for their and horses for plowing. The potatoes and turnips were stored under the house and a load of coal was dumped in the bedroom so it could not be stolen. His memories of the depression were very vague.
Roy as he was to be called most of his life, was an industrious little boy and used the push-type lawn mower to mow the neighbor's lawns to make money for the movies and things he wanted. When he was thirteen he was helping in the neighborhood grocery store and the owner, who drinking, let him run the meat slicer and the slicer sliced off some parts of his fingers on the left hand. His father sued but only received a thousand dollars.
He graduated from Webster High School and took a course in drafting and became a draftsman. He also was very adept as a carpenter and in later years redone the house he was born in and lived in all his life. He also helped the neighbors work on their homes at no charge to them. He was a good auto mechanic, too.
Roy is preceded by a brother Jesse Hill Nicholson Jr, three sisters: Dorotha Lee, Evelyn Witt, and Jessie Faye Whitaker. He is survived by a sister, Orleana Dillahunty and a brother, Everett Nicholson, and many nieces and nephews.
He is a charter member of Easton Height Baptist Church, a very gentle soul and deep believer in Jesus Christ, his savior and help mate through life.
Graveside services will be held 2:00PM Monday, February 14, 2022 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
