Mrs. Oleta Holland, a resident of Okmulgee since 1953, died at the age of 85 on November 24 in a local nursing home. Since 2003, Mrs. Holland spent most of her time living with her daughter in Goose Creek, SC, or with her son in Broken Arrow before moving to Highland Park Manor in April of 2012. Mrs. Holland was born on April 18, 1927, near Morrow, AR, to Clarence Ray and Lilly Gladys (Reed) Kidd. Following high school graduation in California, she married Timothy Jackson Holland on June 25, 1946, in Muskogee, OK. The couple lived briefly in Tahlequah before purchasing their first home in Muskogee. The family moved to Okmulgee following Mr. Holland’s transfer as an employee of the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. During the last decade of her life, she attended the First Assembly of God Church in Okmulgee and Peace Presbyterian Church in Goose Creek, SC, when living with her daughter’s family. While at Peace, Mrs. Holland was an active participant in worship services, Sunday School, Bible Study Groups and Wednesday Night Dinners, as well as a dedicated crafter for bazaars sponsored by the Peace Presbyterian Women. She was quickly adopted by that congregation, who lovingly called her “Momma”. Throughout her life, Mrs. Holland pursued a variety of hobbies and interests, such as learning to play the guitar, working with scout groups, and extensive traveling with her husband. In addition to playing the guitar and singing with friends as a teenager, she enjoyed playing the guitar with friends at Crosstown for many years. During the 1960’s, her profession was that of a seamstress and tailor at Topper’s, a men’s clothing store in Okmulgee. Survivors include one son, Roger D. Holland of Broken Arrow, OK; one daughter, Glenna Holland Best and her husband, Robert A. of Goose Creek, SC; and one granddaughter, Tara Michelle Best also of Goose Creek.
