Clarence Norman Gibson, a resident of Yukon and former resident of Henryetta, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 at the age of 90. He was born January 2, 1921 to James Gibson, Sr. and Dorothy (Collier) Gibson in Henryetta, Oklahoma. On January 16, 1943, he married Anna Margaret Watzke in Brownwood, Texas. Mr. Gibson graduated from Henryetta High School in 1940, where he also played football. He worked as a sales representative for the oilfield industry and was a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church. Mr. Gibson served in the United States Army. During WWII, he served 33 months overseas as a Liaison Pilot. He was initially assigned to 77th Field Artillery, serving in North Africa, Sicily and in Italy. He later served with the 5th Army in Italy, France and Germany and received several awards including the Bronze Star. He was preceded death by his wife, Anna M. Gibson in 2000; parents James and Dorothy Gibson; one sister and five brothers. Survivors include his two sons, James N. Gibson and wife, Margaret of Lawton and Thomas Gibson and wife, Judy of Norman; four grandchildren, Emily Snowden and husband, Scott of Oklahoma City, Amber Gibson Roop of Norman, Andy Gibson and wife, Dawn of Frederick, Maryland and Carlye Gibson Rooney and husband, Kamas of Burnsville, Minnesota; five great grandchildren Landen Roop, Anna Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Timothy Gibson and Matthew Snowden; niece, Gwen Gibson Armstrong; great nephew, Major Daniel Gibson and wife, Tracy and great niece Kathleen Chandler Tippins and husband, Ian. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 21, 2011 at the Westlawn Cemetery with Tom Gibson officiating. Services are under the direction of the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta. Pallbearers will be Andy Gibson, Major Daniel Gibson, Kamas Rooney, Scott Snowden, David Woodrow and James Gibson. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to “The Pride of Oklahoma” Marching Band at the University of Oklahoma. Memorial gifts can be sent to Karen Renfroe, OU Development, 339 West Boyd, Norman OK 73019. Please make checks payable to the OU Foundation and indicate Pride – Gibson Memorial on the memo line.
