Nora Elizabeth Hershey Dawson was born June 21st, 1933 in Miami, OK to Chester and Louise Hershey. She went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2024. She lived her almost 91 years to the fullest. Nora was a beloved sister, mother to 3, grandma to 7, and great-grandmother to 10. She was the matriarch of her family, their biggest supporter, and the best person they ever knew. Nora's infectious spirit and kind heart will always be remembered and cherished by everyone who knew her.
Nora graduated from Jenks High School in 1951. After graduation, she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She met and married Jimmie Leroy Dawson in 1952 and became a stay-at-home mother to their three beautiful daughters Debbie, Sherry, and Angie. In 1977 Nora went to work for Getty Oil Company (Texaco) until she retired in 1994.
Nora, also known to those closest to her as "Nonnie" or "Mimi", loved church, sewing, laundry (especially ironing), reading, gardening, and family gatherings. Nora was a proud lifelong member of Rose Hill Methodist church for over 50 years until it closed. She taught Sunday school and played an important role during Sunday services. In 2020, she joined Boston Avenue Methodist Church. Nora was a religious guide and everyday life advisor for her family, always there to provide guidance and support.
Nora is survived by her sister, Sheila Ahrend, her daughters Debbie Koepp-Travis (Craig) of Mannford, Sherry McCullough (Billy) of Collinsville, Angie Griffin (David) of Broken Arrow, grandchildren Ronnie Koepp, Heather Ibanez, Kadie Griffin, Matthew Koepp, Brooke Rogers, Garrett McCullough, Rylie Griffin and great grand-children Elijah Ibanez, Cullen Ibanez, Bella Ibanez, Bryce Griffin, Owen Griffin, Gemma Griffin, Navy Rogers, Neely Rogers, Conner McCullough, and Weston McCullough.
Nora was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Dawson, sister Mary Lou Mitchelle, and parents Chester and Louise Hershey.
