Nicholas Harry Lucas

June 22, 1934 — November 6, 2022

Nicholas Harry Lucas passed away peacefully Sunday evening, November 6, 2022 at the age of 88 years in Tulsa, OK. Nick was born in Kansas City, KS on June 22, 1934 to Harry and Mildred Lucas, the first of three sons. After relocating to several cities while growing up, the family moved to Salina, KS where he graduated from high school and met his future wife, Constance Joan Burns, who was a year younger than him. He attended Kansas State for a year then returned and a week after her graduation, they were married on June 7, 1953.

The couple moved to Tulsa for a year while he attended night school at the University of Tulsa and worked as a draftsman for the Tulsa Refining and Engineering Company. They then moved to Stillwater so he could complete his degree in Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma A&M. While in Stillwater, they welcomed their first child, Leslie. Upon graduation, the family moved to Anniston, AL while Nick served in the United States Army attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

Returning to Tulsa, he began his career in the process instrumentation field working for BS&B for several years and during this time they welcomed their other children, Kimberly and Andrew. He then worked for Roy Wetzel as a manufacturer's rep before deciding to start his own company, Lucas Controls Co. Inc., in February, 1969. Nick was an excellent sales engineer, respected widely throughout the process instrumentation industry but his success wouldn't have been possible without the support of Conny, who managed the office and kept everything running smoothly. He also was a member of several organizations and served on many boards including Instrument Society of America, Masonic Lodge 555, Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, Meals on Wheels and others.

Nick and Conny, in their younger years, enjoyed camping, spending time at Grand Lake on their houseboat, sailing on Lake Keystone and lounging and working on their home at Beaver Lake. Later years, were spent on trips to Europe, cruises and visiting friends and family especially enjoying time with their grandkids.

In 2013, Nick and Conny were able to celebrate 60 years of marriage with a reunion of their family and friends. Family and faith were two important elements in everything they did. Conny passed away after a long illness in 2014 a month after they celebrated their 61st anniversary.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Conny and his brothers, Pat and Kenny, and brother-in-law, Scott Burns. He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Lucas of Tulsa, daughter, Kim Locklear and her husband Jeff of Overland Park, KS and Andy Lucas and his wife Angie of Tulsa. Grandchildren Calvin(Jordan) Locklear of Denver, CO., Cass(Erin) Tucker of Skiatook, OK., Nick Tucker of Tulsa, OK., Hannah(Jordan) Knight of Overland Park, KS., Drew(Alix) Lucas of Tulsa, OK., and Abbey Lucas of Tulsa, OK. Eleven great grandchildren, Quinn, Hayden and Liv Locklear, Maddox, Lillian and Greyson Tucker, Eisley Tucker, Theo, Hazel and Oliver Knight and Jack Lucas, brother-in-law, Clark(Nancy) Burns and sister-in-law, Kay Burns and several nieces and nephews.

Although the last few weeks were very difficult and unexpected, we were grateful Dad was able to pass with peace and grace. The family would like to thank the CEARU Medical Resort Household II nursing staff for their kind and giving care the last couple weeks. We would also like to thank the staff at University Village, where he lived the last three years, for their care and efforts.
