Neva Mae Calvert, 85, long-time resident of Glenpool, OK, went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2015. She was born July 12, 1930 in Lenna, OK to James Elmer and Bennie Mae Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cecil, 5 brothers and sisters, and 3 great grandchildren. She is survived by sisters Joyce Hunter and Clara Calvert of Glenpool OK; her children Brenda (Butch) Anderson of Glenpool, OK; Cecil (Joyce) Calvert of Glenpool, OK; Mike (Kathy) Calvert of Glenpool, OK; Roger (Rhonda) Calvert of Springdale, AR; Dave (Karen) Calvert of Sapulpa, OK; Becki (Gerry) Bear of Little Elm, TX; 14 grandchildren 24 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Neva was a feisty lady who received her greatest happiness from spending time with her family and giving to others. She spent many of her retirement days volunteering her time at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America receiving the "Volunteer of The Year Award", and later, at Faith Church where she was affectionately known as “the donut lady”. Nothing gave her more pleasure than her family coming together whether it be for a holiday meal or just a spontaneous gathering, and she was always ready for a girls’ trip. Neva was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed seeing her family pack into the house and gather in the kitchen on holidays. Her family often looked for any excuse to get together to share laughter and fellowship. Neva was always happy to cook for everyone as long as she didn’t have to do the dishes. After 20 years as a beautician, Neva went on to manage Sahoma Lanes Bowling Center for 17 years before retiring at the age of 65. In her retirement years she particularly looked forward to playing cards on Tuesdays and Thursdays with her friends at the senior center. Although she will be dearly missed, Neva had 85 good years and we were blessed to spend each day with her. While we will miss her greatly, we are comforted knowing she is once again with Cecil and will be waiting to see us again one day.
